Amanda Workman begins her ninth year as head women's golf coach at the Savannah College of Art and Design after serving as assistant golf coach for two years.
The Bees earned their the sixth consecutive NAIA National Championship berth last season and finished in 13th place. Women’s golf, which was ranked as high as No. 13 in the NAIA in 2008-09, is the lone program that has qualified for the national tournament in every season since the Bees rejoined the NAIA in 2003. In 10 tournaments, the Bees recorded eight top-10 finishes, including four in the top five.
SCAD finished in 10th place at the national tournament in 2007-08 after being ranked No. 14 in the NAIA. In 10 tournaments that season, the Bees had eight top-10 finishes, including three in the top five. Golfer Katina Ruest became the program's first-ever NAIA All-American when she named to the first team.
SCAD, which had nine top-10 finishes, established several firsts during the 2006-07 season where the Bees finished in 10th place at nationals. The Bees, which finished the season ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, won their first-ever major tournament when the captured the Eagle Invitational and had one golfer — Jenny Vigilante — earn victories in three tournaments in one season.
SCAD finished in the top 10 in every regular-season tournament in 2005-06 as the Bees finished in 13th place at nationals. During the season, the Bees were ranked eighth nationally.
SCAD finished in ninth place — the team’s highest finish in university history — at the 2004-05 NAIA National Championship. The Bees finished in the top 10 of every tournament it competed in that season.
Workman was named the SCAD Coach of the Year in 2004 as the women's golf team enjoyed its best season ever. In their first-ever postseason tournament, the Bees finished 13th at the NAIA National Championship that was held in Daytona Beach, Fla. In eight tournaments in 2004, the Bees finished in the top 10 in each event.
In 2003, the Bees posted five top-10 finishes and ended the season ranked No. 22 by the National Golf Coaches Association's NCAA Division III Top 25 poll. In 2002, the Bees posted three top-10 finishes and ended that season ranked No. 25 by Golfstat.
Prior to SCAD, Workman played NCAA Division I golf at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. Workman was named to the Academic All-Conference team during each of her four years at TCU and garnered the university's highest academically ranked female athlete award. She was named Outstanding Freshman Athlete, voted most valuable player during her junior year, and served as team captain her senior year.
While with the Horned Frogs at TCU, Workman attended the NCAA National Championship twice with her team, which also won the Western Athletic Conference Championship. The team was ranked in the top 10 during three of Workman's four years at TCU.
Workman, who has qualified twice for the U.S. Amateur, has a bachelor's degree in speech communications from TCU and a Master of Fine Arts degree in media and performing arts from SCAD.
