Cheerleaders Pick Up Six Awards

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Savannah College of Art and Design cheerleading squad walked away with six awards at the UCA Cheerleading Camp held at the University of South Carolina August 12-14.

Twenty-four cheerleading squads from the East Coast participated in the overall camp. SCAD participated and competed in the Small Coed Division with the following schools: Presbyterian College, the University of South Carolina at Aiken, Charleston Southern University, and Samford University.

During the week, SCAD picked up Superior Awards for Sideline and for Cheer. The Bees also earned Superior Awards for Sideline and Cheer during final evaluations. The Bees also picked up the Superior Trophy and the Most Improved Overall Squad in the Small Coed Division.

Members of the SCAD squad that attended the UCA camp were Amanda Baker, Josh Bernett, Paris Boler, Anne Cloninger, Patrick Darby, Eleni Flegas, Jenny Husman (captain), Samantha Pattillo, Rob Poulsen, Katie Wood, and head coach Wayne Evans.

Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week

Alex Graudins

Men's Swimming

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.

Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

XinYu Shang

Intramurals

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28.

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
