Cheerleading Finishes Third at NCA Myrtle Beach Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Savannah College of Art and Design cheerleading squad competed at the National Cheerleading Association - Myrtle Beach Classic April 10 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

The squad competed in the Open All-Star Division, placing third. The division consisted of a mixture of 15 teams including all-girl and co-ed from several points along the East coast including Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.

The competition routine was 2 minutes and 15 seconds long and the squad was judged in the following categories: tumbling, partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses/jumps, motions/dance, projection, choreography, degree of difficulty, and overall effect. High-score areas for the Bees were basket tosses/jumps and pyramids with an average score of 8.0.

The routine will be performed for SCAD at the Sidewalk Art Festival April 24.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week
XinYu  Shang

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
