KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Savannah College of Art and Design women's soccer players
Selin Kuralay and
Melissa Feuerriegel have been named to the 2008 NAIA All-America team.
Kuralay became the program's third different player named to the squad, joining
Mary-Kate Sliter (2005) and Feuerriegel (2007). Kuralay also became the program's first first-team selection as Feuerriegel was named to the second team and Sliter was a third-team selection. Feuerriegel was an honorable mention choice in 2008.
Kuralay, a 5-foot-4 senior midfielder from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, finished second in goals (10), assists (5) and points (25) for the Bees, who finished the season with a 12-6-0 record and was ranked 14th in the NAIA. Kuralay, who was a first-team All-The Sun Conference performer, recorded a hat trick (three goals) in a 9-3 win over Warner University and tallied two match-winning goals in 2008.
"We were blessed to have a player with immense skill and experience as Selin," said SCAD head coach Andy Williamson. "She has the ability to change the complexion of a match and her vision is unmatched."
Feuerriegel, a 5-6 junior forward from Clontarf, Queensland, Australia, paced SCAD in goals (16), assists (8) and points (40). The four-time conference offensive player of the week choice in 2008 holds the college records for goals (45) and points (109) and is one shy of the all-time assist mark with 19. Feuerriegel, who was also a first-team all-conference pick in 2008, registered five multi-goal contests this season, including her college-record tying effort of four goals in a 5-0 win over Auburn University Montgomery. Feuerriegel finished the second ranked 20th in the NAIA in points per match (2.50), 25th in goals per match (1.00) and 41st in assists per match (0.50).
"Melissa has shown that she has been one of the best players in the NAIA the last two years," said Williamson. "I expected big things from her when she arrived but to be our most accomplished player by the end of her junior year has been amazing. I am very happy for her."
