SCAD to hold cheerleading tryouts May 3

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah College of Art and Design cheerleading program will be conducting tryouts for the 2008-09 team May 3.

The tryouts will last from 1-3 p.m. at the Cheer Savannah gym located at 1871-B Grove Point Rd. in Savannah.

Participants should wear typical cheerleading clothing such as sports bra, t-shirt, cheer shoes and form-fitting shorts/skorts. Participants should wear no jewelry and have their hair pulled back.

Cheer requirements include the following:

  • Standing tumbling requirments include doing a handspring and prefer standing tucks
  • Running tumbling requirements include doing tucks and prefer layouts/fulls
  • Required to be a good jumper as well as have great motions and possess great voice projection
  • Possess great spirit, appearance, energy, charisma, enthusiasm and attitude
  • Be in shape, fit and healthy
  • Have dance experience
  • Have stunt/basket/pyramid knowledge and experience. Need tall and strong back spots, flyers and strong bases.

Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week
XinYu  Shang

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
