OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -
The Savannah College of Art and Design women's golf team is in fourth place after the opening round of the Oklahoma City Star Classic presented by Cusack Meats Monday (Oct. 12).

The Bees, who finished last season ranked 13th in the NAIA, shot a round of 316 on the par-71, 6,122-yard layout on the West course at the Lincoln Park Golf Course. SCAD, which is one of seven-ranked squads in the 10-team field, trailed tournament host Oklahoma City University by 10 strokes after the five-time defending NAIA national champion Stars fired a 306. Lubbock Christian University - ranked No. 11 in the NAIA in 2009 - is second at 309 while No. 14 Southern Nazarene University is at 315.

Nikki Stewart led the SCAD contingent with a 77, good for a tie for sixth place. Katina Ruest is in an 11th place tie after carding a 78 while Jenna Schupska is tied for 19th with an 80. Kelsey Klatt and Amelie Mogard each shot an 81 and are tied for 22nd place.

Lubbock Christian's Sinae Montoya holds the individual lead in the 54-player field after tallying a 73, one stroke better Oklahoma City's Paige Martin and Wayland Baptist University's Charlotte Guilleux.

The 36-hole tournament concludes Tuesday (Oct. 13).
