Bees finish in second place at Oklahoma City tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. –
Behind three top 1o results, the Savannah College of Art and Design women’s golf team finished in second place at the Oklahoma City Star Classic presented by Cusack Meats Tuesday (Oct. 13).

The Bees, who finished last season ranked 13th in the NAIA, shot a round of 306 – two strokes off the college’s 18-hole record - on the par-71, 6,122-yard layout on the West course at the Lincoln Park Golf Course.  The  round of 306 was the low round of the day and the entire tournament and helped SCAD to finish the 36-hole event at 622. SCAD, which is one of seven-ranked squads in the 10-team field, only trailed tournament host Oklahoma City University by eight strokes after the five-time defending NAIA national champion Stars fired a round of 308 to finish at 614.

Katina Ruest finished in a tie for fifth place at 154 after carding a 76 in the final round. Kelsey Klatt had the low round of the day for the Bees with a 74 and finished in ninth place at 155. Nikki Stewart rounded out the top-10 performances for SCAD as her 79 put her in a 10th-place tie at 156. Amelie Mogard tallied a final round 77 and completed the tournament in a tie for 15th at 158. Jenna Schupska had an 84 and finished in a tie for 27th place at 164.

Wayland Baptist University’s Charlotte Guilleux earned medalist honors after registering a 73 in the final round to finish at 147, a stroke better than Lubbock Christian University’s Sinae Montoya.

SCAD returns to action Oct. 26 when they close out its fall season at the Flagler Fall Slam in St. Augustine, Fla.

Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
