Bees set course record as they take Blue Hose Invitational

Records fell Friday (Oct. 2) afternoon at the Blue Hose Invitational as the Savannah College of Art and Design women's cross country team remained unbeaten in 2009. For the third consecutive meet, the Bees swept the individual and team titles.

Senior Tracy Koch captured her first race of the season as she won the 5K race in a course-record time of 18:50, 57 seconds better than the previous mark.  Koch edged teammate Sarah Caskey for the title by four seconds while Cara Martin  finished third in a time of 20:33.  The Bees bested six teams, which included NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NAIA schools, to win the team title with 31 points.

Heather Riniker just missed a top-10 finish as she came in 11th place at 21: 27 followed by Natalie Johnson (14th, 22:10), Tori Aboud (24th, 24:26), Lauren Soutar (26th, 25:10) and Megan Merrifield (29th, 26:03).

SCAD returns to action Oct. 16 at the Stetson Invitational in Deland, Fla.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week
XinYu  Shang
Intramurals
SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
