Bees tied for sixth after first round of Flagler Fall Slam

The Savannah College of Art and Design women's golf team is tied for sixth place after the opening round of the Flagler Fall Slam Monday (Oct. 26).

The Bees, who finished last season ranked 13th in the NAIA, shot a round of 319 on the par-72, 6,077-yard layout at the Slammer and Squire Course at the World Golf Village. NCAA Division II-member Saint Leo University leads the 19-team field with a score of 301.

Kelsey Klatt had the top round for the Bees with a round of 77 to stand in a tie for 16th place while Nikki Stewart is tied for 21st after a 78. Katina Ruest is tied for 39th place after carding an 81 while Jenna Schupska is tied for 52nd at 83. Amelie Mogard is tied for 65th place after tallying an 85. Anna Riss of Saint Leo was the lone player to shoot below par with a 1-under 71 to lead the 93-player field after 18 holes.

The 36-hole tournament concludes Tuesday (Oct. 27).

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
