Bees finish in third place at Georgia Southern

BROOKLET, Ga. - The Savannah College of Art and Design equestrian team opened their 2009 season with a third-place finish at the Georgia Southern University Horse Show Saturday (Oct. 24) at Evermore Farms.

Defending Zone 5, Region 3 champions College of Charleston won the 10-team event with 38 points, one more than the host school. SCAD was next with 35 points.

Three SCAD riders won their respective events. Kelse Bonham won the open equitation over fences while Haley Bolton claimed victory in intermediate equitation over fences. Echo Wilcox picked up a win in her section of novice equitation over fences.

The Bees also picked up three second-place finishes - Chelsea McCarthy (open fences and open flat) and Courtney Squibb (novice fences) - and two third-place finishes - Chelsea Porter (beginners walk-trot-canter) and Squibb (novice flat).

SCAD will return to action Saturday (Oct. 31) when the Bees host the SCAD Horse Show at the Ronald C. Waranch Equestrian Center beginning at 9 a.m.
