ROANOKE, Va. - The Savannah College of Art and Design equestrian team started their 2009-10 season with a fourth-place finish at the Tournament of Championships Preseason Classic Sunday (Sept. 27).
Virginia Tech University won the 20-team event with 29 points, two points more than second-place Bridgewater College. The event saw a half-dozen leaders and a final score that had the top seven teams separated by one six points.
Paul Frederick earned SCAD's lone first-place finish as he captured his section of intermediate equitation on the flat.
Bridget Bailey placed second in her section of walk-trot.
Kelse Bonham finished third in her section of equitation over fences. Bonham also came in fourth place in the overall Tournament of Champions Medal.
Wade Fuller (walk-trot-canter) and
Chelsea McCarthy (open flat) each registered fourth-place finishes while
Jaclyn Pavlos (intermediate fences) and Echo Wilcox (novice fences) came in sixth in their respective events.
The Bees open their IHSA portion of the schedule Oct. 24 when they travel to Brooklet, Ga., for the Georgia Southern University Show.
