SCAD advances to championship with 3-1 win over Warriors

The Savannah College of Art and Design volleyball team advanced to the  championship match of the 2009 The Sun Conference Tournament with a 25-18, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-15 semifinal victory over Webber International University Friday (Nov. 13) evening at the ICI Center.

The Bees, who are the No. 2 seed, improved to 27-7 while the No. 3-seeded Warriors ended their season at 25-9. SCAD will face tournament host and No. 1 seed Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University in the 2 p.m. title match Saturday (Nov. 14) after the Eagles swept Warner University in their semifinal match.

Courtney Shelton led the Bees with 16 kills and eight total blocks while Olympia Haney added 13 kills and seven digs. Allison Regas distributed 41 assists while contributing seven digs and three total blocks. Arynn Nease led the defense with 19 digs while Danielle Shipe added 11. Cathryn Gregson added eight kills and three total blocks while Kendall Nichols added five total blocks.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

Intramurals
SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
