SAVANNAH, Ga. - Men's golfer
Loren Bunting has been named the Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending Nov. 1 at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Bunting, a 5-foot-10 junior from Ocean Grove, Victoria, Australia, set or tied three university records as he earned medalist honors at the 2009 Wilmington Island Club Intercollegiate. Bunting tied a university record for the low 18-hole score (65) in the second round that was accomplished twice by Clint Colbert during the 2001 season. Bunting also set new university standards for 36 and 54-hole scores. The 36-hole score of 137 surpassed the previous mark of 139 set by Jon Orchin in 2005 and Colbert in 2002 while the 54-hole tally of 208 was two better than Colbert's score at the 2001 Gordin Classic.
Bunting's efforts helped the team capture the 12-team event by 20 strokes over the University of South Carolina Beaufort.
SCAD, which is ranked 11th in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf NAIA Coaches' Poll, will return to intercollegiate action Feb. 8 at the Start-2-Finish Invitational in Sebring, Fla.
