Pairings set for conference tournament

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The pairings for the 2009 The Sun Conference Women's Soccer Tournament have been announced.

The Savannah College of Art and Design (8-7-0 overall) is seeded No. 4 in the four-team tournament after going 6-3-0 in the league. SCAD will face No. 1 seed Northwood (Fla.) University (12-4-0 overall, 8-1-0 TSC) in a 3 p.m. semifinal match Saturday (Nov. 7) at Arrigo Field in West Palm Beach, Fla.
   
Northwood clinched its share of the conference's regular-season title Sunday (Nov. 1) when the Seahawks defeated SCAD 3-1 at the SCAD Athletics Complex. The winner of the SCAD-Northwood match will face the victor of the other semifinal match between No. 2 seed Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University and No. 3 Webber International University in the championship match Nov. 13. The highest remaining seed will host that title match.

Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week
Alex Graudins
Men's Swimming
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
