Bees have five players earn all-conference honors
The Bees open their 2007 season with a 5 p.m. home match against Shorter College Aug. 25.
The Bees open the 2009 conference tournament Saturday at home against Warner at 3 p.m.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Savannah College of Art and Design has had five players named to The Sun All-Conference Men’s Soccer Team. Dan Fadida, Ellert Hreinsson, Richard Langthorne and Ally MacDonald were first-team selections while Robbie Wright was tabbed for the second team.

Fadida, a 5-foot-8 senior midfielder from Saltash, England, is second on the team with seven goals scored, third in points scored (18) and fourth in assists (four).  Fadida is currently ranked 46th in the NAIA with three match-winning goals in 2009. The two-time all-conference selection (2006, 2008) is third on the university’s all-time list in assists (17) and fourth in goals (22) and points scored (61). 

Hreinsson, a 6-4 junior forward from Kopavogur, Iceland, has twice been named offensive player of the week in the conference this season as he leads the Bees in goals (12), assists (seven) and points scored (31). Hreinsson, who named to the all-conference team in 2007 and 2008, is currently ranked 31st in the NAIA in total points, 34th in points per match (1.940), 42nd in total goals, 46th in match-winning goals (three), 47th in assists and 48th in goals per match (0.750). Hreinsson is currently No. 2 on the all-time list is goals (31), third in points scored (76) and tied for fourth in assists (14).

Langthorne, a 6-3 freshman defender from Newton Aycliffe, England, has helped quarterback the SCAD defense that has allowed just 14 goals in 16 matches (0.875 goals allowed per match).

MacDonald, a 5-11 freshman defender from Inverness, Scotland, has recorded two assists in 14 matches played in 2009.

Wright, a 6-0 senior goalkeeper from Bellingham, Wash., In 11 matches – all starts - in 2009; he has allowed just eight goals and registered one shutout in just over 867 minutes played. He is currently ranked 28th in the NAIA with a 0.830 goals-against average and the Bees are 8-2-1 with him in the goal.  Wright, who received the conference’s Champion of Character Award last season, has recorded 31 saves in 2009 with a .795 saves percentage.

SCAD (11-3-2 overall, 7-1-1 The Sun) earned the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament and will face No. 3 seed Warner University in a 3 p.m. semifinal match Saturday (Nov. 7) at the SCAD Athletics Complex.

Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week
XinYu  Shang
Intramurals
SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
