Bees split matches against NCAA Division II opposition

The Savannah College of Art and Design volleyball team split two non-conference matches against NCAA Division II institutions Saturday (Nov. 7) afternoon at Flagler Gym.

The Bees defeated Palm Beach Atlantic University 25-23, 19-25, 26-24 and 25-22 before dropping a 25-10, 25-12 and 25-19 decision to Flagler College, which won its college-record 22nd match in a row.

The Bees improved to 25-7 and will close out the regular season with a 2 p.m. The Sun Conference match Sunday (Nov. 8) against Edward Waters College.

Against the Sailfish, Olympia Haney had 15 kills and 15 digs while Courtney Shelton contributed 12 kills and five total blocks. Allison Regas nearly had a triple double as she had 35 assists, nine kills and nine digs. Arynn Nease added 20 digs while Jen Drouin tallied 16.

Against Flagler, Haney added seven kills while Shelton had six more. Regas contributed 22 assists while Drouin added eight digs.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.

XinYu  Shang

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
