SCAD sends two runners to nationals as Bees finish second at conference

LAKE WALES, Fla. -
The Savannah College of Art and Design women's cross country team finished in second place at the 2009 The Sun Conference Championship that was held Saturday (Nov. 7) at the Lekarica Golf Course.

In the process, the Bees had a runner earn all-conference accolades and had two runners qualify for the NAIA National Championship that will be contested Nov. 21 in Vancouver, Wash.

In the 5K race, the Bees finished with 72 points behind Embry-Riddle's winning tally of 24. It was the second consecutive year that SCAD has finished second in the conference.

Sarah Caskey came in fourth place in a time of 19:17.17. By virtue of being among the top seven finishers, she earned all-conference honors. She also qualified for nationals by being one of the top five finishers not on the winning team.Caskey along with Cara Martin, who came in 14th place (21:30.69), had their tickets punched for nationals.

Heather Riniker was next for the Bees in 18th with a time of 22:07.28 and was followed by Natalie Johnson (20th, 22:32.80), Lauren Soutar (28th, 23:58.01) and Tori Aboud (32nd, 24:31.48).

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
