Emmett earns win as Bees in fourth place after day two of meet

SAVANNAH, Ga. -
The Wingate University men's swimming team maintained their lead after the second day of the SCAD College Invitational Friday (Dec. 4) at the Chatham County Aquatic Center.

Wingate leads the nine-team men's meet with 630 points after 10 events in the 18-event, three-day meet. Darton College is in second place with 307. Host Savannah College of Art and Design is in fourth place with 231 points.

Nat Emmett picked up the first win for SCAD in the meet as he claimed the 200-yard breaststroke event with a time of 2:10.73. Teammates Sam Crawford finished in third place (2:15.18) in the event while Stephen Sullivan came in fourth (2:15.46). Sullivan also picked up a fifth-place finish in the 100 backstroke (54.87) while Geoffrey Byers registered a sixth-place finish in the 400 individual medley (4:25.28).

The Invitational concludes Saturday (Dec. 4) with preliminaries at 10 a.m. with the finals beginning at 4 p.m. Events to be competed include the 400 freestyle relay, 200 individual medley, 500 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 100 freestyle, and 200 medley relay.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
