Bees in third place after second day of SCAD Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Wingate University women's swimming team maintained their lead after the second day of the SCAD College Invitational Friday (Dec. 4) at the Chatham County Aquatic Center.

Wingate leads the 12-team field with 507 points after 10 events in the 18-event, three-day event, 149 more than second-place Florida Southern College. Host Savannah College of Art and Design is in third place with 317 points.

Melanie Futscher tallied a pair of third-place finishes - 400-yard individual medley (4:44.02) and 200 breaststroke (2:28.73) - for SCAD. Kelsey Brosseau placed in fifth place for SCAD in the 400 individual medley (4:50.42) while Zenobia Duncan did the same in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.29). Mary Ashley Krogh came in seventh place in both the 50 freestyle (25.82) and 100 backstroke (1:03.14) events for the Bees. Gianna Grace also picked up a seventh-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:01.35) while Tori Aboud finished eighth in the 200 freestyle (2:02.39).

The Invitational concludes Saturday (Dec. 4) with preliminaries at 10 a.m. with the finals beginning at 4 p.m. Events to be competed include the 400 freestyle relay, 200 individual medley, 500 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 100 freestyle, and 200 medley relay.

Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
