SAVANNAH, Ga. -
The Wingate University women's swimming team claimed the SCAD College Invitational title Saturday (Dec. 5) at the Chatham County Aquatic Center.

Wingate led the 12-team field with 902 points in the 18-event, three-day event, 233 more than second-place Florida Southern College. Host Savannah College of Art and Design stayed in third place with 519 points.

Melanie Futscher and Zenobia Duncan each had the best finish of the day for the Bees. Futscher finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.27 while Duncan did the same in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:08.48. Nicole Dumont came in fourth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:13.23. Heather Librizzi recorded a fifth-place time of 2:15.70 in the 200 butterfly while Kelsey Brosseau came in seventh with a time of 2:17.50.

SCAD returns to action Jan. 23 when they host Darton College in a 4 p.m. meet at the Chatham County Aquatic Center.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
