SAVANNAH, Ga. - Men's swimmer Thomas Gibson has been selected the Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending Dec. 7 at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Gibson, a 6-foot-1 senior from Sieverville, Tenn., finished in 20th place in the men's 200-yard breaststroke event at the 2009 AT & T USA Swimming Short Course National Championships in Federal Way, Wash., with a time of 2:02.95.

e was one of seven SCAD swimmers that competed at the national championships. The other swimmers included Mike Lawrence, Vitali Pushkar-Verbitsky, Alex Graudins, Kelsey Coffey, Kaycee Corso and Liz Roberts.

The Bees return to action Jan. 23 when they host Darton College in a 4 p.m. meet at the Chatham County Aquatic Center.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
