SAVANNAH, Ga. - Shareese Richardson led four players in double figures as the Savannah College of Art and Design defeated Edward Waters College 73-59 in a The Sun Conference women's basketball game Saturday (Feb. 21) afternoon at the Ron Love Athletic Center on the campus of Savannah High School.
The Bees clinched their third consecutive winning season as they improved to 14-12 overall and to 5-7 in the league while the Tigers fell to 2-15 and 1-11. SCAD earned the No. 4 seed in next week's conference tournament that will be played at Edward Waters in Jacksonville, Fla. The Bees will face No. 5 seed Webber International in a 4 p.m. first-round contest Thursday (Feb. 26).
SCAD took a 29-22 lead at the half before scoring six unanswered points to take a 41-30 lead with 14:29 remaining on a putback from senior
Kaona McGowan. The Bees extended their lead to 17 points (49-32) on a layup by
Katie Stover with 10:05 left.
The Tigers closed to within nine points (49-40) when Tieura Quick nailed a three-pointer two minutes later. However, that would be as close as they would get as SCAD scored the next seven points to take a 56-40 lead on a free throw by
Rachel Saddler with 7:19 to play.
Richardson led the Bees with 18 points while
Janay Wilson added 13 points. McGowan and
Britteny Terry each finished with 10 points while Terry grabbed a game- and career-high 18 rebounds. Quick paced the Tigers with 14 points while Ebone Presha and Marquinta Ridgel each registered 11.
