Pairings for The Sun Tournaments announced

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Tournament pairings for the 2009 The Sun Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments have been released.

In the men's tournament, the Savannah College of Art and Design (16-14 overall, 4-10 TSC) earned the No. 7 seed will travel to No. 2 St. Thomas (Fla.) University (17-10, 9-5) for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal contest Tuesday (Feb. 24) in Miami. The winner advances to face the winner of the No. 3 Warner University and No. 6 Florida Memorial University in the semifinals Friday (Feb. 27). The semifinals and finals will be held at the highest-remaining seed after the quarterfinals.

In the women's tournament, the Bees (14-12, 5-7) are seeded fourth and will play No. 5 seed Webber International University (14-10, 5-7) in a first-round game Thursday (Feb. 26) in Jacksonville, Fla., on the campus of Edward Waters College. The winner advances to face No. 1 seed St. Thomas (Fla.) University (21-6, 10-2), which earned a first-round bye, at 5 p.m. Friday (Feb. 27).

Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week

Men's Swimming
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
