WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Caitlin Noble led a balanced attack with 15 points as Northwood (Fla.) University opened up a big halftime lead, then held off a furious comeback in a 67-62 The Sun Conference women's basketball win over the Savannah College of Art and Design Saturday (Feb. 7) afternoon.
The Seahawks (22-3, 9-1 The Sun Conference), who won their 13th consecutive game, improved to 22-3 overall and to 9-1 in the conference while the Bees fell to 12-11 and to 3-6 in the league. SCAD returns to action Friday (Feb. 13) when they host Warner University in a 7 p.m. game at Savannah High School.
Northwood roared out of the gate, opening up an 11-4 lead on a pair of baskets by Jessica Cooley and a three-pointer from Christina Daniels.
Katie Stover's layup trimmed the lead to 16-8, but Sissy Ryan's three capped a 14-9 run that made it 30-17 with 6:11 remaining in the first half. Northwood finished the half outscoring the Bees 12-4 from that point to take a 42-21 lead into the halftime break.
Caitlin Noble opened the second half with a three that made it 50-26, but threes from
Krystle Remigio and
Kaona McGowan cut the lead to 15 (53-38) with 13:17 to play. McGowan drained two more threes to make it a 58-44 game, and after Remigio sunk another three with 6:36 to play, the lead had been cut to 58-47.
The Bees continued to push, as Remigio nailed two more threes to get the lead down to single digits (62-53), and layups from
Janay Wilson and Stover made it a 65-62 game with 1:13 to go. Forced to foul, the Bees sent Wencis to the line where she connected on both shots, and SCAD could not get any final shots off.
Noble finished with 15 points, while Cooley added 14 points and 11 boards and Christina Daniels and Sissy Ryan each added 11. Remigio led all scorers with 19 points while Stover (17) and McGowan (11) also finished in double figures.
