Bees split two matches

The Savannah College of Art and Design women's lacrosse team split two matches Saturday (April 4) evening at the SCAD Athletics Complex. The Bees won their opener 24-12 over Clemson University before falling 14-7 to the University of Miami (Fla.).

With the split, the Bees improved to 6-10 and they wrap up their regular season with a noon match Sunday (April 5) against Auburn University at the SCAD Athletics Complex.

Against Clemson, the Bees jumped out to a 6-0 lead - thanks to five goals by Nicole Mula - and never looked back. Mula finished with nine goals while Allie John contributed six more. Samantha North tallied five goals and Nicole Burns contributed two more. Chelsea Bernardo and Christina Driver each also found the back of the net once.  John also contributed two assists while Alicia Anderson, Bernardo and Driver recorded one each.

Khylen Steward picked up the win in goal while recording five saves. Lauren Alexander also picked up two saves.

In the second match, the game was tied at 2 until Miami scored six unanswered goals late in the first half and the opening moments of the second half. Mula and John scored twice against the Hurricanes while North, Jaclyn Scott and Burns each added one.  John, Mula, North and Scott also contributed an assist. Steward tallied 12 saves for the Bees.

Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
