Two named to MCLA All-America teams

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Two men's lacrosse players from the Savannah College of Art and Design have named to one of the 2009 Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association's Division II All-America teams.

Dan Comite was named a third-team selection while Brandon Ussery was an honorable-mention choice.

Comite, a 5-foot-8, 150-pound sophomore long stick middle from Swampscott, Mass., tallied 37 ground balls for the Bees this season and added an assist.  Comite, who was a first-team All-Southeastern Lacrosse performer, also earned the Scholar-Athlete Award from the MCLA.

Ussery, a 6-0, 180-pound senior defense from Savannah, Ga., led the defense with 47 ground balls and added two goals in 2009. Ussery was also named to the all-conference team for a second consecutive year.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
