MacEachern elected to NAIA-SIDA Board

Sports Information Director Michael MacEachern will serve a two-year team as second vice president on the NAIA-SIDA Board.
SAN ANTONIO – Savannah College of Art and Design Sports Information Director Michael MacEachern has been elected to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics-Sports Information Directors of America Board as the Second Vice President. The elections were held during the NAIA-SIDA Convention June 20 on the campus of Our Lady of the Lake University.

The Second Vice President post is a two-year appointment. NAIA-SIDA works to develop agendas and policies within the NAIA. By virtue of being a vice president, MacEachern is in line to become President of NAIA-SIDA in 2013.

MacEachern is beginning his ninth season as sports information director at SCAD and oversees all publicity and media relations matters concerning the athletics department. The College Sports Information Directors of America and NAIA-SIDA have recognized MacEachern’s publications 23 times. MacEachern is responsible for the department’s Web site (www.scadathletics.com), which has been voted among the top three sites in the NAIA the past two years. MacEachern also worked as a press steward for the baseball venue at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.

The Charleston, S.C., native is a 1987 graduate of the College of Charleston, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. While there, he served as a student assistant in the sports information office for three seasons.

A long-time member of CoSIDA, MacEachern has served as a national coordinator on CoSIDA’s ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® committee since 1988. He served four seasons as the national coordinator for NCAA Division II men’s soccer statistics. MacEachern also serves as the chairperson of the NAIA-SIDA Publication Contest Committee.

College, First Vice President; Ron Smith of Westmont College, Three-Year At-Large Representative; Cindy Fotti of Columbia (Mo.) College, Two-Year At-Large Representative; Steven Aldridge of Union (Tenn.) University; One-Year At-Large Representative; and Dave Parsons of Mount Vernon Nazarene University; Past President.

Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
