Bees sweep titles at USCB as record falls

For the second consecutive meet, the Savannah College of Art and Design men's cross country team swept the individual and team titles at the Sand Shark Invitational Saturday (Sept.19) morning at Jasper Park.

Freshman Cesar Fernandez Lazaro won his second consecutive men's title as he won the 8K race in a time of 26:30, 59 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. The time also established a new college record as he shattered the previous record of 27:00 held by teammate Patrick Cooley by 30 seconds. The Bees had four runners in the top 10 as SCAD took the meet with 28 points, five better than second-place University of South Carolina Beaufort.

Ben Harrison (fifth, 27:50), John Sutherland (sixth, 27:53) and Ed McDaniel (12th, 28:56) each recorded personal-best times in the meet while Cooley finished in ninth place for the Bees with a time of 28:44. Nick Curtis came in 11th overall with a time of 28:54 followed by Joe Housel (17th, 29:55), Carl Dominique (18th, 29:56) and Dillan Brinlee (20th, 30:46). For Housel, Dominique and Brinlee, the meet marked the first collegiate 8K races in their careers.

The Bees return to the action Oct. 2 at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to Clinton, S.C., for the Blue Hose Invitational.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
