SCAD take individual, team titles at Sand Shark Invitational

For the second consecutive meet, the Savannah College of Art and Design women's cross country team each swept the individual and team titles at the Sand Shark Invitational Saturday (Sept.
19) morning at Jasper Park.

Sarah Caskey claimed her second win in as many weeks as she won the 5K race with a time of 18:49, six seconds faster than her teammate Tracy Koch.  As a team, the Bees won their second consecutive Sand Shark title as they won the event with 21 points, 17 better than USCB.

Cara Martin finished in fourth place with a time of 20:32 while teammates Heather Riniker (sixth, 21:09) and Natalie Johnson (eighth, 22:02) recorded top-10 finishes. Tori Aboud finished in 11th place (23:12) while Megan Merrifield finished in 18th (24:44).

Except for Martin, every runner for the Bees recorded a personal best in the meet.

The Bees return to the action Oct. 2 at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to Clinton, S.C., for the Blue Hose Invitational.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week
XinYu  Shang
Intramurals
SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
