What a way to start the 2009 women's cross country season for the Savannah College of Art and Design.

SCAD claimed Division II victories - team and individual - at Friday evening's (Sept. 4) Gamecock Invitational.

The Bees claimed their ninth team title as they topped five teams to win the Division II title with 23 points, 30 points better than the University of South Carolina at Aiken. Freshman Sarah Caskey won the 5K individual title with a time of 18:57, four seconds ahead of teammate Tracy Koch who set a personal-best time of 19:01.  Caskey, who took home her first individual title and the program's 13th overall, finished 11th overall out of the 97 runners in the race.

Cara Martin finished in third place for the Bees with a time of 20:27 followed by Heather Riniker (seventh, 21:11), Natalie Johnson (10th, 22:11), Tori Aboud (17th, 24:30), and Megan Merrifield (18th, 25:35).

The Bees return to the action Sept. 19 at 9:30 a.m. when they travel to Hardeeville, S.C., for the Sand Shark Invitational.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
