SCAD defeats Darton on Senior Day

SAVANNAH, Ga. -
The Savannah College of Art and Design defeated Darton College 158-100 in a men's swimming meet Saturday (Jan. 23) afternoon on Senior Day at the Chatham County Aquatic Center.

SCAD won 11 of the 14 events competed. SCAD improved to 3-1 on the season and will return to action Saturday (Jan. 30) with a 2 p.m. meet against Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C.

Four swimmers each claimed two wins for the Bees. Alex Graudins claimed victories in both the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events. He established a new university mark in the 1,000 with a time of 9:29.56 and won the 500 with a time of 4:35.37. Other double winners for SCAD included Thomas Gibson (100 breaststroke - 57.94; 200 breaststroke - 2:09.02), Vitali Pushkar-Verbitsky (100 backstroke - 52.27; 100 butterfly - 50.38) and Stephen Sullivan (200 backstroke - 1:57.67; 400 individual medley - 4:15.75). Chris Wilson (200 butterfly - 1:59.24) also picked up a victory for the Bees.

SCAD recognized and honored four seniors - Geoffrey Byers, Owen Chikazawa, Leonardo Del Solar and Gibson - prior to the meet.

Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
