McManus scores four goals in Bees' season-opening 13-7 win over UNF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jordy McManus scored four goals and assisted on four others as the Savannah College of Art and Design men's lacrosse team opened up their 2010 season with a 13-7 victory over the University of North Florida Thursday (Feb. 4) evening.

The Bees improved to 1-0 overall and to 1-0 in the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference Division II South Division. SCAD returns to action Feb. 12 when they travel to Dayton, Ohio, for an 8 p.m. match against Grove City College.

McManus was one of four SCAD players who tallied multiple goals against the Ospreys. Derek Shurson scored three times and added two assists while Shelton Polka and Trey McKay each registered two goals. McKay also assisted on two goals. Dan Ogren and Cole Whitworth each put a goal in net for the Bees.

Goalie Wade Winebrenner recorded 11 saves in the victory.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
