DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Savannah College of Art and Design men’s golf team moved up one spot and finished in sixth place at the Eagle Invitational Sunday (March 14).
The Bees, who are ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, finished the 54-hole tournament at 913 (+49). SCAD completed its second round that was suspended Saturday (March 13) due to darkness with a score of 304 (+16) and then shot 301 (+13) in the final round on the par 72, 6,764-yard layout at The Club at Pelican Bay North Course.
Brevard Community College won the 18-team tournament with a score of 891 (+27), seven strokes better than No. 5-ranked University of South Carolina Beaufort. No. 7 Johnson & Wales (Fla.) University finished third at 900
(+36) followed by No. 19 Southeastern University at 903 (+39) and St. Thomas (Fla.) University at 910 (+46).
Tom Hayes recorded a top-20 finish for the Bees as he tied for 18th place at 227 (+11) after rounds of 77 (+5) and 74 (+2). Teammates
Loren Bunting and
Greg Richards tied for 21st place at 228 (+12). Bunting fired rounds of 75 (+3) and 74 (+2) while Richards carded scores of 76 (+4) and 78 (+6).
Mika Becktor shot 233 (+17) and finished in 39th place after tallying rounds of 76 (+4) and 75 (+3).
Scott Melton shot rounds of 77 (+5) and 82 (+10) and finished tied for 56th place at 238 (+22).
Southeastern’s Drew Matthews earned medalist honors in the 108-player field at 217 (+1).
The Bees return to action March 26 when they travel to Jacksonville, N.C., for the Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate Golf Championship.
