Bees tied for first place at nationals after first full day

ST. PETERS, Mo. – Defending NAIA national champion Savannah College of Art and Design is tied for first place after the first full day of action at the NAIA Women's Swimming & Diving National Championship Thursday (March 4) at the St. Peters Rec-Plex.

Through seven events, SCAD is tied for first place with Fresno Pacific University in the women's competition with 154 points, four ahead of third-place California Baptist University.

The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Tori Aboud, Megan Lawless, Lauren Soutar and Nicole Dumont finished in second place in a time of 7:46.75. The 200 medley relay team of Mary Ashley Krogh, Liz Roberts, Kelsey Coffey and Kaycee Corso finished in third place with a time of 1:46.49.

Corso also came in third place in the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.32 while Krogh was fifth in a time of 24.51. Melanie Futscher finished in fourth place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:09.69. Jill Jeffries came in sixth place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:10.93 while Heather Librizzi came in eighth in a time of 4:39.67.

The NAIA championships continue Friday (March 5) with preliminaries at 10 a.m. Central and the finals beginning at 6 p.m. Events to be competed include the 200 freestyle relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 400 medley relay.
