RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Savannah College of Art and Design finished in 15th place after the final round of the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship Friday (May 28).
The Bees, who are ranked No. 12 in the NAIA, shot their best round of the tournament with a 317 on the par-72, 6,000-yard layout on the Meadowbrook Golf Course to finish the tournament at 1,314, the second-best 72-hole score in the program's history. The 317 score was the sixth-best round of the day out of the 25 teams in the field.
Nikki Stewart, a 5-foot-6 sophomore from Aliso Viejo, Calif., tied the university-record for low-18 score with a one-under par round of 71, which was the lowest of the day out of the 128 players in the field. Stewart finished in sixth place overall - the highest finish by a SCAD golfer at nationals - with a university-record 72-hole score of 307, slicing seven strokes off the previous record held by Amber Weller (2004) and Hallie Cochran (2007).
By virtue of her top-15 finish, Stewart, who also picked up one of the four NAIA Champions of Character Awards presented at the tournament, was named the all-tournament team, guaranteeing her a spot in the 2011 tournament that will be held at the Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn. She is the fourth SCAD player to be named to the all-tournament team in the Bees' seventh consecutive appearance in the tournament.
Mary-Michael Burns shot an 84 for the Bees and finished in a tie for 64th place at 332.
Andrea Perez had her best round of the tournament (78) and finished with a score of 333, good for a tie for 68th.

Amelie Mogard shot an 87 and tied for 100th at 354.

The No. 2-ranked Stars shot 307 and finished seven strokes behind at 1,231.
