FORT MYERS, Fla. – Five Savannah College of Art and Design players were named to the 2010 All-The Sun Conference Baseball Team Saturday (May 8) evenings at the annual conference tournament banquet held at the Clarion Hotel.
Named to the first team were outfielder
Mike Hines and pitcher
Stephen Shackleford while catcher
Scott Shambaugh and infielders
Patrick Braswell and
Matt Zajac were named to the second team. For Braswell, it's his third all-conference appearance while it's the first for the other players.
Hines, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior right fielder from Lithonia, Ga., batted .326 (62-of-190) in 55 games for the Bees this season. He had 11 doubles and three home runs to go along with his 11 stolen bases and 37 RBI.
Shackleford, a 6-1, 185-pound, junior right-handed pitcher from Louisville, Ky., went 11-3 with a 2.45 ERA this season. Shackleford appeared in 19 games – 16 starts – as he threw 11 complete games and had a save. In 91 2/3 innings this season, he limited the opponents to just 84 hits (.243 batting average) and struck out 93. He is currently ranked No.
2 in the NAIA in wins, fifth in strikeouts, 10th in innings pitched and 11th in runs allowed per game (1.632).
Shambaugh, a 5-10, 235-pound senior catcher from Gahanna, Ohio, batted .330 (31-of-94) in 40 games in 2010. He had eight doubles, four home runs and drove in 27 runs as he registered a .543 slugging percentage.
Braswell, a 5-8, 170-pound junior shortstop from Jacksonville, Fla., batted .351 (67-of-191) for the Bees in 55 games. He led SCAD with 23 doubles and five home runs. Braswell also stole 13 bases and drove in 36 runs while tallying a .560 slugging percentage. He is currently ranked seventh in the NAIA in doubles, 19th in assists (139) and 26th in doubles per game (0.418).
Zajac, a 6-2, 210-pound sophomore third baseman from Pine Brook, N.J., batted .288 (47-of-163) in 55 games for SCAD in 2010. He collected nine doubles, a triple and a home run as he knocked in 25 runs.
SCAD (30-25) returns to action when the fourth-seeded Bees will face No. 3 seed Warner University in a 7 p.m. first-round game Sunday (May 9) in the six-team, double-elimination conference tournament at the City of Palms Park in Fort Myers, Fla.
