SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design women's soccer coach
Andy Williamson announced the addition of Shelby Dieckamp to a grant-in-aid to play for the Bees next season.
Dieckamp, a 5-foot-7 forward/midfielder from Indianapolis, Ind., played soccer for four seasons at Ben Davis High School for coach Rob Irvine. The 2009 co-captain has been named to the all-state team three times, the all-county squad four times as she scored over 20 goals and assisted more than 30 others during her career. She was also selected twice for the all-conference and all-district teams and was named the team's offensive most valuable player by her teammates.
She also has played soccer for the Dynamo 92 club program for the past five seasons. During her career with the Dynamo, they have made it to the state final four times, winning the championship in 2008 and 2009.
"Shelby is a competitor,” said Williamson. “Whether it is in practice or games, she gives her best effort every time. I love players that have that competitive fire and she has it. She will play up top or could play in midfield. Her addition may make our attacking force one to be feared.
“In the past we relied on one or two players for the bulk of our attack, but now we have four or five players that can score double-digit goals,” added Williamson. “She can be one of those players or even be the one that creates chances for others. I am so pleased she has joined us."
